Human Rights Volume III is a continuation of the work begun in the first two volumes of this series. While Volume I laid the conceptual and historical foundations, and Volume II examined the most persistent violations in the areas of trafficking, labor, and discrimination, this volume addresses the human rights challenges that are shaping our world today.
The issues discussed in this volume arise from rapid social, technological, and environmental change. They test our understanding of freedom, equality, and dignity in new contexts — in digital spaces, across borders, in relation to the environment, and within education systems. These are areas where rights are both most vulnerable and most essential.
My aim in writing this volume has been to bring together international law, policy, and real-world practice in a way that is clear, documented, and useful for readers. The book draws on reports from the United Nations, human rights organizations, and scholarly research to examine how rights are protected, where they are at risk, and what responsibilities states, institutions, and individuals hold. If this volume encourages even a few readers to look more closely at the world around them and to stand for the principles of justice and humanity, it will have served its purpose.
